Descriptions of BCAEC Workshops

Middle School Musical Theater Workshop
This workshop allows students to experience singing, acting, and dancing with the guidance of professional actors. Eight middle school students from each of the consortium's school districts have the opportunity to learn theatrical techniques with the day culminating in performances.  The workshop is designed to include large group activities along with smaller ones giving each student a chance to develop his/her talents.

This event is hosted at Central Valley High School by Ms. Sandy Reigel (Co-Chair of the BCAEC) along with Ms. Amy Patterson (Governing Board member)
High School Musical Theater Workshop
This workshop gives students with a keen interest in their own high school musical a chance to work with professional actors from in and around the Pittsburgh area.  Eight high school students from each of the consortium's school districts spend the day learning singing, dancing, and acting techniques.  The day ends with a performance in which  students share their talents and skills that they have learned.

This event is hosted at Central Vally High School by Ms. Sandy Reigel (Co-Chair of the BCAEC) along with Ms. Amy Patterson (Governing Board member)
Middle School Choral Workshop
A choral workshop for middle school students, grades 6-8 hosted by Choir Director Mrs. Carly Wazenegger, and Music Teacher and BCAEC Steering Committee Member, Mrs.  Kimberly Zerance.
The event will be held at the South Side Area School District.  Students will be divided into two choirs - a boys choir and a girls.  Both choirs will have the opportunity to work with professional choral conductors/vocalists to improve their skills, boost their confidence - particularly through the changing voice process, and increase their knowledge and love of singing.  It will be a day of camaraderie and beautiful singing!
Elementary Visual Arts Workshop
This workshop provides upper elementary students with the opportunity to work with a professional artist in a small group setting, often using materials and/or techniques not readily accessible in the general elementary art classroom. Workshops are held on-location at participating schools.

This event is coordinated by Rochester Elementary Art Teacher Mrs. Elise Gorman.
High School Visual Arts Workshop
This workshop gives high school students with a strong art background and interest the opportunity to work with a professional artist while mingling with art students from other local districts. Students will get to experience the art form of the visiting artist, with time to observe, discuss, and create work of their own.

This event is hosted off-campus in Beaver Falls by High School Art Teacher Mrs. Gerry McCorr.

These pedagogical experiences will take place in both section masterclasses and full ensemble settings. The day will culminate with a performance of a piece of music that is prepared during the workshop.

This day is hosted by Mr. Todd Hartman (Steering Committee Member) hosts this workshop at Ambridge Area High School.
Brass & Percussion Day

Members of the River City Brass Band will provide them the opportunity to gain a better understanding of functional warm ups, dexterity and control exercises, proper tone production and effective performance techniques. These pedagogical experiences will take place in both section masterclasses and full ensemble settings. The day will culminate with a performance of a piece of music that is prepared during workshop.
